Chief Executive speaks at GISDA conference

Iwan Trefor Jones, our Chief Executive spoke at GISDA’s conference in Caernarfon today.

Iwan said: “It was an honour to be invited to speak at the GISDA young people’s services conference in Galeri, Caernarfon earlier today.

“We’ve had a long history of working with GISDA for many years. GISDA, under the skilled leadership of Sian Elen Tomos, provides an excellent support service for young people. The reason the collaboration is so successful is the fact that we share the same values.

“And there are many examples of collaboration. We have been managing their flats in Tre Gof, Caernarfon since 2014 and this is an arrangement that has worked extremely well.

“We also work together on the skills and employability agenda – this is an example of how two organisations have come together with their contracts and strengths to meet the needs of young people. We’re able to provide training, work experience and paid work placements  through Academi Adra, with GISDA referring individuals forward for support and providing additional guidance through long term mentoring and helping young people to overcome barriers to work.

“We also worked closely with GISDA on a partnership aimed at fostering connections between Gwynedd and Cornwall.  Together, we have embarked on a joint initiative to investigate the repercussions of the tourism industry in both regions. Our focus extends to understanding its impact on language, culture, and the affordability of housing for young people within our communities.

“Partnership working is very much the way forward and we look forward to many more years of co-operation and joint working with GISDA”.
