Pupils get creative to celebrate St David’s Day
Pupils at three Bangor primary schools have been getting creative as part of a cultural event to celebrate St David’s Day.
We received funding from Welsh Government to run a project to mark the patron saint’s day and a celebration of being Welsh.
We commissioned the musician Hywel Pitts to work with Ysgol Glancegin, Ysgol Hirael and Ysgol Llandygai to create a song called Adra Ni (Our Home). Pupils from Year 6 at the schools came up with words for the song, with Hywel Pitts responsible for composing the melody.
The pupils performed the song at a special event held at Maesgeirchen Youth Centre today (Friday, 27 February).
Llinos Bracegirdle, our Social Value Co-ordinator said: “This was a great opportunity to celebrate pride in being Welsh but also for taking the Welsh language into the community.
“We’ve been delighted with the response from the schools. They have been really creative in coming up with words of what home means to them and it’s been great seeing how the words generated by the pupils have culminated in the finished product.
“It’s a very appropriate song for us at Adra and it’s been a pleasure working with Hywel Pitts and the school pupils. It’s doing the little things like this that go a long way in promoting the Welsh language and culture”.
