Turf cutting marks the start of 49 new affordable homes in Bodelwyddan

A turf‑cutting ceremony has officially marked the beginning of Adra’s latest development of 49 affordable homes in Bodelwyddan.

The scheme represents a significant investment in the area and will provide high‑quality, energy‑efficient homes for local people.

Located on Abergele Road, the development is being delivered by main contractor Wynne Construction, with support from the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant and Denbighshire County Council.

The development will include a mix of social and intermediate rent homes designed to meet a range of local housing needs, helping more families and individuals access safe, modern and affordable homes within their community.

Elliw, Adra’s Senior Project Manager said: “We are delighted to begin work on this important development in Bodelwyddan.

“These 49 new affordable properties will provide much‑needed, high‑quality and sustainable homes for local people, while offering the long‑term stability of a secure tenancy, giving residents the consistency and confidence they need to build strong, healthy connections within their community.

“Today’s turf cutting is an exciting milestone, and we look forward to seeing the project progress over the coming months.

“There is so much demand for affordable housing in Denbighshire and north Wales, which reflects the national picture. Adra has made a firm commitment in its Corporate Plan to build new homes that local people can be proud of, that are energy efficient, of high quality and affordable in terms of rent and heating costs.”

Wynne Construction managing director Chris Wynne said: “We’re excited to be starting work on this important housing development, particularly as it is located so close to our own headquarters here in Bodelwyddan.

“It’s also a pleasure to be working once again with our valued client, Adra, following the success of our recent projects together in Bangor. I’m confident our team will deliver another high-quality scheme and achieve excellent results, working in partnership with our local supply chain.

“We plan to work closely with residents throughout the construction phase to help minimise any disruption.”

Construction is expected to be completed by spring 2028 with the first residents anticipated to move in shortly after.
