Opening the doors to a development of flats in Bangor
There are 38 new flats ready to be rented in Bangor city centre to provide quality homes to meet local housing need. The new homes have been completed and the doors have been opened for the first time.
We have officially opened the Plas Farrar flats to showcase the building that has received much attention in Bangor city centre.
Our staff have arranged for potential residents to visit the building this week to provide them with affordable homes.
The flats were officially opened by our Board Chair, Hywel Eifion Jones who said:
“We are so pleased to open the doors of this development, Plas Farrar, in Bangor city centre to provide affordable homes to meet the housing need for local residents.
“These apartments on Deiniol Road, Bangor by Adra is a mixed tenure scheme that includes three rental options including Social Rent, Intermediate Rent and Open Market Rent. There is a total of 38 one and two bedroom apartments.
“The location of these flats is very important to us. We wanted a central location in the city, a stone’s throw away from the train station, a stone’s throw away from the High Street to give local people the opportunity to live here and contribute to the local economy.
“By harnessing local talent, suppliers and other partners, we will create better homes that are affordable and sustainable for local people.”
Sian Gwenllian, Member of the Senedd for Arfon also attended the event. She said:
“In my role as Member of the Senedd for Arfon, a significant proportion of casework relates to housing, lack of housing, or residents living in unsuitable housing.
“I am therefore acutely aware of the pressing need in the area for quality social housing. This development of 38 dwellings is an important contribution to the effort to meet that need.
“Plas Farrar also has a very special and important contribution to make to the city of Bangor.
“The Covid era has been very challenging for city centres like Bangor. But the proximity of Plas Farrar to the High Street is good news for local businesses and the proximity of the train station is going to be very convenient for the residents.
“A big thank you to Adra for inviting us to explore the new development and to say a word of congratulation to all the partners for their work. It will be great to see the flats filled up and contribute to the life and vibrancy of the city centre. ”
Wynne Construction was appointed by us to build these flats in Bangor.
Project Manager at Wynne Construction, Andy Lea said:
“We are very proud to have completed this prestigious apartment building, which is a project first, with our client Adra to help provide locals with the chance to rent affordable homes.
“As this was the first housing association project for Wynne Construction, the team really enjoyed working with Adra and facing the challenges and constraints provided by a busy town centre site location in Bangor. We look forward to further opportunities to partner with them in the future.
“This build also allowed us to continue our dedication to the future of the industry through working with apprentices as well as local supply chain partners, and we are thrilled the commitment has resulted in meeting our training targets and delivering a high-quality apartment development which will benefit the region.”
The social rented flats will be let by us through Gwynedd Council’s Housing Options Register. While individuals with an interest in the intermediate rented housing will need to be registered with Tai Teg. The open market flats will be let by a local Housing Agent.
