To some extent, every household will get damp from time to time. The problem starts when water collects and fails to escape.

Many things affect dampness, condensation and mould, so we have created a video with small tips about the things you can do to prevent and reduce dampness in your home. Things you can do in your home every day to prevent mould:

• Keep the kitchen door closed and open a window while cooking

• Putting a lid on pans during cooking

• Make use of a fan if there is one in the kitchen and bathroom

• Close bathroom doors when using the bath and then leave a window open

• Reduce steam during running bath first apply cold water and then hot water

• Don’t crowd cupboards – make sure there’s room for air to move

• Do not place furniture and beds too close to the walls

• Keep the heat on low during the day in cold weather periods

• Try not to use paraffin heaters or flue-free gas

• When using a tumble dryer, put the pipe out through a window or door

• Open a window while drying clothes in the house

• Not drying clothes on warm radiators
