Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 – Your new Occupation Contract

The Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 is a new law by the Welsh Government that has come into place since the 1st of December 2022.These changes have been planned by Welsh Government for some time and have been scrutinised and supported by tenant organisations such as TPAS Cymru and Shelter Cymru.

You may have heard or seen us communicating about it during the last year. It introduces many changes to tenancy laws and will apply to both social and private rented sectors.  The purpose is to simplify agreements and improves the condition of rental homes in Wales and offers greater security and certainty to tenants and landlords.

It is not anything to worry about, the only thing you will need to do is read your contract and familiarise yourself with your rights and responsibilities.

The written statement is not a new contract, it’s a written statement (written copy) of the existing terms and conditions of your tenancy agreement, incorporating additions and/or changes required by the Act.Please keep it safe so that you can refer to it when you need to.

As Adra customers you will receive a written statement of you occupation contract within the next six months.
