Moving to a new home

We hope you’ll be happy in your new home.

Here are a few things to help you settle in.

Before receiving keys for your new home:

  • you will need to end your current tenancy
  • you can arrange a viewing of the property, please contact us to arrange this. You should not under, go to the property without one of our staff members

Things you should know

  • we do not provide carpets
  • we do not include furniture or appliances
  • we may not allow laminate flooring – this can cause a noise nuisance to your neighbours

Before you move into your new home:

  • you’ll need to pay all rent and charges of your current tenancy
  • you’ll need to pay us one week’s rent and service charge (if applicable) in advance when you sign your new tenancy
  • make sure that any housing benefit applications and over payments are resolved
  • discuss with our Allocations team, Shelter Cymru or Citizens Advice Bureau any support you may need regarding starting your tenancy
  • if relevant, discuss any matters related to moving home with your social / support worker

Checklist

  • take final readings for gas, electric and water meters at your current address and let your current suppliers know about the move. You will need to do the same as soon as you move into your new home
  • disconnect the phone, and arrange with the telephone company for a final account at your current address and to takeover / install a telephone at your new home
  • once you have moved into your new home, you will need to contact us to arrange a second gas check
  • tell your broadband provider and Sky provider and so on, that you are moving
  • contact Royal Mail regarding re-directing your post
  • let relevant people such as your Doctor, Dentist or Social Worker know your new address
  • inform the Housing Benefit and Council Tax department at your Local Authority
  • arrange Home Contents Insurance for your new home
  • contact your Local Authority for any information regarding refuse (bin collections), school terms and other services
